Dear fellow investors and future investors. This time we reflect on something as simple as the color to choose for the entrance doors in the properties we renovate. Always in that blessed obsession to keep gaining awareness about the things we do as investors and having reasons and solid arguments to do one thing or another.

According to some research and studies nationwide, it has been found that colors such as black or a charcoal gray on front doors can have an impact on the sale value of a property, it can represent an increase in price of several thousand dollars (Zillow, 2018).

However, this time we will focus on the choice of red as a color for entry doors, something we have been doing in the last few flip and buy&hold projects we have executed. There are many influences that support colors in shades of red for entry doors. In Chinese culture the color red helps in the fight against evil, attracts luck and health. Chinese culture has the belief that the main entrance is the gateway to feng shui, so having the main door or its outlines in red is a symbol of luck, abundance and prosperity.

Some consultants indicate that by painting our front door red, we set the intention that we want to attract positive energy, abundance, passion, and opportunity into our homes and lives.

According to historical data, a red door signifies welcome according to an ancient American tradition. If a family had a red door, traveling travelers knew that the home welcomed them to rest and regain energy. In ancient Catholicism, churches painted their doors red as a symbol of protection, and passing through those doors represented that one was on holy ground. Finally, in ancient Scotland a red-painted front door implied that the owners were free from paying mortgages.

I don’t think that in modern times we can be free of mortgage payments, but it is clear that there are many good reasons why a red door can be a good alternative. At the end of the day, the colors chosen for the property and personal taste will determine the choice.
